Building Bots is embracing the STEM education revolution by providing students and teachers with VEX STEM LAB sessions and mentoring from a qualified Engineer. Our program targets a variety of experiences for year 5 to year 8 using the Vex IQ product.
We come to you with the class plan and components for the students to building their own robot and take on different challenges. No need to purchase expensive equipment and teachers can breathe easily as we will bring the robotics knowledge while they maintain the classroom and reporting.
Robotics Mentoring Service
Our mentor service can provide a range of additional support and expertise to your students, teachers and competition teams. Enabling your school to provide a robotics program without the added pressure on your education staff to undergo additional training to obtain VEX certification and numerous hours becoming familiar with the equipment and software.
Our mentors will provide the school or classroom teacher with the information on the chosen STEM Lab activity in advance of the class. The information will include:
- A Description of the activity
- Key Concepts
- Lesson format
- Facilitation notes
- Build instructions
- Discussion points.
During the class our mentor will provide guidance to the students on:
- How to approach the task.
- How to problem solve and find multiple ways of solving the problem.
- How to test their solution.
- What to document regarding their findings and components that should be documented in an Engineering Design book.
- Reflecting on the design cycle.
Classroom teachers will be required to maintain discipline during the STEM lab and assist students when needed. The mentor is not responsible for formally assessing the students, however, is willing to assist with developing assessment criteria prior to the session if required. Any formal assessment should be conducted by the classroom teacher.
Incursions are a fun and alternative way to introduce the Vex Labs program into a school. Ranging from a double lesson (1.5 – 2 hrs) to full day sessions and a selection of topics on offer, including
- Tallest tower engineering challenge with an earthquake machine.
- Build an autopilot robot with automated forward and backward movement.
- Build an autopilot robot with sensor exploration.
- Vex IQ sensor testbed.
Block of Lessons
Using a block of Lessons for a term/semester, we can work with the teachers to provide an integrated STEM teaching approach linking science, technology, engineering, and maths through a major project or multiple projects.
We are also able to offer discounted rates for block bookings.
Vex Competition Mentoring
VEX Competitions bring STEM skills to life by tasking teams of students with designing and building a robot to play against other teams in a game-based engineering challenge. Classroom STEM concepts are put to the test as students learn lifelong skills in teamwork, leadership, communications, and more.
Competitions are a great environment for students to collaborate and meet other like minded students. If your school is entering a team and would like some additional mentoring, we can help.
